Since 2014, the Toyonaka International Association has been running an event called "Let's Eat Around the World" as part of its multicultural coexistence promotion project.
The purpose of this event is to invite foreigners as lecturers and have them interact with local people through food, to promote intercultural understanding through this interaction, and to empower the lecturers by having them teach about food culture.During the 2020 fiscal year, which was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event involved large groups of people eating and drinking, so as a measure to prevent infection, regular activities were postponed.
Instead, we came up with the idea of publishing a recipe book. We have compiled into one book the approximately 40 dishes that have been introduced in "Let's Eat Around the World" over the six years since its launch in 2014. Our goal was to create a book that not only introduces dishes, but also "shows people and cultures." We also feature interviews with foreigners who have served as instructors on "Let's Eat Around the World," as well as columns on cooking and information on food stores. We hope you will pick up this book and try the familiar flavors of the home countries of foreigners living in your area.
