Public Interest Foundations and Tax Credits

Toyonaka International Friendship Society (ATOMS) is a public interest incorporated foundation approved by Osaka Prefecture.
Donations to Toyonaka International Friendship Society (ATOMS) are eligible for tax deductions when filed as a tax return.

What is a donation deduction?

There are two types of donations that are eligible for deductions: "individual donations" and "corporation donations." You can receive a donation deduction by filing a tax return with the local tax office.
Membership fees are also tax deductible as donations.

Personal donation

You can choose the more advantageous option between (1) tax credit and (2) income deduction.

Application method

  • Please file your tax return with the tax office in your area. Tax returns are usually filed between mid-February and mid-March.
  • This cannot be deducted during year-end adjustments, so please file a tax return.
  • Please attach or present the "specified receipt" issued by our organization.
  • Receipts will be sent in July for payments made between January and June, and in January for payments made between July and December.
  • For details on procedures and systems for local tax deductions, please contact your local government.
  • It's easy because the calculations are done automatically using the national tax electronic payment and filing system [e-Tax]!
(1) When applied as a tax credit

The amount calculated using the following formula will be deducted from your income tax as a "donation deduction."
The deduction is limited to 40% of the annual income, and the deduction is limited to 25% of the income tax.

[Total amount of donations paid to public interest foundations in that year - 2,000 yen] x 40% = [Deduction amount]
Example: If you donate 10,000 yen to a public interest foundation
[10,000 - 2,000 yen = 8,000 yen] x 40% = [deduction amount 3,200 yen]

(2) When applied as an income deduction

The amount calculated using the following formula will be deducted from your income tax as a "donation deduction."
The income tax rate is capped at 40% of your annual income, and varies depending on your annual income.

[Total amount of donations paid to public interest foundations etc. that meet certain requirements in that year - 2,000 yen] x income tax rate = [deduction amount]
Example: If you donate 10,000 yen to a public interest foundation (assuming the income tax rate is 10%)
[10,000 - 2,000 yen = 8,000 yen] x 10% = [deduction amount 800 yen]

*You may be able to deduct up to 40% of your combined income tax and local resident tax (10,000 yen for a 4,000 yen donation).
*The scope of deductions depends on the local government ordinances in your area, so please contact your local government for more information.

Corporate Donations

In addition to the general deductible expenses limit for donations, donations can be deducted up to the special deductible expenses limit.
Please note that the calculation of the amount that can be included as a deductible expense also includes donations to other certified NPOs, public interest incorporated foundations, public interest incorporated associations, etc. For details, please check with your local tax office or the National Tax Agency.

Bequests and inheritance donations

Your valuable assets (bequests) or inheritances can be used to support children and young people with foreign roots who will lead the next generation through the Toyonaka International Friendship Association (ATOMS).
In addition, because our Foundation is a public interest incorporated foundation certified by Osaka Prefecture, all bequeathed assets and inherited assets for which the necessary procedures have been completed by the deadline for filing inheritance tax returns are all tax-exempt.

Bequest

You can donate all or part of your valuable assets as a bequest according to your will. When writing your will, in addition to the amount of your bequest, please specify the recipient as "Toyonaka International Association (1-1-1-601 Tamai-cho, Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture)".
In order to ensure that your wishes are realized, you will need to create a legally valid will. There are several methods available, such as a "notarized will" or a "holographic will," so we recommend that you seek the advice of a professional, such as a lawyer, judicial scrivener, administrative scrivener, or tax accountant. For more information about wills, please seeJapan Association of Notaries websiteYou can check at.

Donating inheritance

You may donate all or part of your inherited assets. In addition, by submitting a "Donation Certificate" issued by our foundation and a "Certificate of Public Interest Corporation" issued by Osaka Prefecture to the tax office within the period for filing inheritance tax returns (within 10 months of the death of the deceased), the donated portion of your inherited assets will be subject to tax exemption (however, approval from the Commissioner of the National Tax Agency is required as meeting certain requirements).

For more information,National Tax Agency websitePlease refer to Article 40 of the Special Taxation Measures Act, which provides for "Special provisions for tax exemption on capital gains, etc. when donating property to public interest corporations, etc."

Points to note and requests

As a general rule, we only accept donations in the form of cash. For donations of real estate, securities, or other items other than cash, please convert them into cash (dispose of them as cash) and donate them after deducting taxes and other expenses.
For any enquiries regarding bequests or donations of inherited assets, please contact your nearest tax office, notary public, lawyer, tax accountant, judicial scrivener, administrative scrivener, or trust bank.
